The Beginner's Guide to Microdosing with Tea

So you've heard about microdosing. Maybe a friend mentioned it. Maybe you've been feeling a little flat and something about the idea of a subtle, intentional shift caught your attention.

Whatever brought you here — welcome. This is Happy Tea's take on getting started. And it's probably a little different to what you've read elsewhere.

Microdosing is best with the tea — Here's why

At Happy Tea, we believe the daily practice isn't the microdose — it's the tea. Our blends are crafted with adaptogens, herbs, and functional ingredients that support your mood, energy, and clarity every single day. The microdose is what you add when you want to go deeper and enrich the experience.

Think of it this way: the herbs and adaptogens are your foundation. They keep things consistent, maintained, balanced. The psilocybin is the occasional enhancer — a tool you reach for with intention.

How often is that? It's different for everyone. Once or twice a week for some people. Once a month for others. There's no universal answer, and anyone who tells you otherwise is oversimplifying. What matters is that when you do choose to microdose, you're doing it with direction — and that's exactly what the tea provides.

The open road analogy

Here's how we explain the concept of "stacking" to customers who are just starting out.

Taking a truffle on its own is like driving on an open road with no lanes. You'll go somewhere, but where exactly is anyone's guess. It's open, it's free, but it can also feel vague or unguided.

Add a Happy Tea blend — with its specific stack of adaptogens and herbs chosen for a particular intention — and the lanes appear. The road is the same, but now you know which direction you're heading. Morning Shine gives you focus and clarity. Evening Groove opens you up socially. Fuego sparks connection and desire. The blend shapes the experience before the truffle even enters the equation.

This is what we mean by stacking. It's not just about adding nice ingredients to tea. It's about synergy — ingredients that work together to amplify and direct each other, so you're not just drinking tea, you're choosing a state of mind.

Why tea specifically?

Because it works faster and more comfortably than eating a truffle on its own.

When you brew your truffle into hot tea, the psilocybin is absorbed through the liquid rather than processed through your digestive system. That means it reaches your bloodstream — and your brain — in around 15 to 25 minutes. You feel it sooner, and the onset is smoother.

It also means less risk of the stomach discomfort that some people experience when eating truffles directly. The tea bypasses a lot of that since the stomach doesn't need to process it first.

And of course, the taste. Consuming truffles are not the greatest experience, they have a very earthy taste. We specialise in creating blends that mask the taste so it becomes a more pleasurable experience.

And then there's the ritual itself. The act of preparing your cup — choosing your blend, steeping slowly, taking that first sip before anything else in your day — becomes an intention-setting moment. Before the truffle has done anything at all, you've already told yourself: today, I'm paying attention.

That matters more than people realise.

What psilocybin is actually doing

Psilocin — the active form that psilocybin converts to in your body — is structurally so similar to serotonin that it fits your serotonin receptors like a key in a lock. Your brain doesn't fight it. It welcomes it. And that's why it can make you genuinely happier.

At a microdose, you won't hallucinate or feel out of control. What you may notice is a slight lift in mood, thoughts that feel a little more fluid, and a quality of presence that makes small moments land more fully. The warmth of your cup. A conversation that actually goes somewhere. A moment of quiet that feels genuinely peaceful rather than just empty.

This is what we call the micromoment — and it's the whole point.

Microdosing doesn't have to be about productivity or performance. It's about training yourself to notice the small joys that are already in your day. The tea and adaptogens keep you open to those moments. The microdose, when you choose it, deepens them.

Happy Tea literally makes you happy, because it's serotonin, and it's what our blends are built around.

Choosing your blend

This is where it gets personal. At Happy Tea, each blend is designed around a specific intention and moment/occasion.

Morning Shine is our morning ritual blend — lion's mane, ginseng, and 5-HTP for focus, steady energy, and mood. It's built around the same principles as the famous and studied Stamets stack.

Afternoon Pick-Me-Up is your midday reset — when the morning has blurred and you need to find your thread again without reaching for another coffee.

Evening Groove is has the highest amount of caffeine, so it's perfect for high energy moments. Social, warm, a little groovy. White tea, 5-HTP, ginseng, vanilla rose.

Flow State is for the days when you need calm clarity — not stimulation, just ease. Perfect for inward activities like yoga, meditation, or just going for a walk in nature.

Social Butterfly is built for gatherings — the alcohol replacement that actually works, without the next morning fog. This one changes colour as it steeps, making it a great party trick.

Fuego is our date night blend — caffeine-free, aphrodisiac ingredients including damiana, maca, and cordyceps. No explanation needed.

Mellow Fellow is for unwinding. Dreamland is for deep sleep. Back to Life is for recovery. Moonlight is for PMS support.

Each one can be enjoyed on its own, every day. Each one becomes something more when you add a microdose with intention, enhancing the functionality of the herbs.

Start with the blend that matches where you are right now. The rest will follow naturally.

A simple way to begin

You don't need a rigid protocol on day one. Here's a gentle starting point:

Daily: Choose a blend that fits your morning or evening. Make it slowly. Drink it before anything else. One small intention for the day — written down or just held in mind.

When you feel ready to microdose: Add 1-2g of crushed truffle to your tea bag before steeping. Start on a day when you have no major obligations. Notice what's different — not dramatically, just quietly. Write it down that evening.

Your rhythm: There's no rule. Some people microdose twice a week, some only on occasions that call for it. The herbs work every day. The truffle is your choice.

After 4–6 weeks of daily tea and occasional microdosing, most people find their own natural rhythm. That's the protocol — not one we hand you, but one that emerges from paying attention.

If you want help building that intentionally from the start, our consultancy sessions are a 60-minute conversation where we do exactly that — together.
