Happy Tea is not your average café stop — and if you're reading this, you probably weren't looking for one.

Happy Tea is a functional tea and latte bar on Tweede Hugo de Grootstraat in Amsterdam West. We're open Monday to Saturday, and we serve what we believe are the most intentional drinks in the city. No standard coffee menu.

No generic matcha. Every cup is built around a specific function — focus, energy, calm, skin, mood, cycle support — using herbs, adaptogens, and functional ingredients that have been used for centuries.

All our lattes are made with Oatly and served at €6.75. Each one is built around a specific intention — not just a flavour.

Morning Shine — Productivity & Focus

Rich Assam black tea with cacao, chai, and vanilla, blended with lion's mane and vitamins B1 and B3.

This is our morning ritual in a cup. Lion's mane is one of the most well-researched functional mushrooms for cognitive support — it's a key ingredient in the famous Stamets Stack for good reason. We pair it with the natural caffeine of Assam black tea and the warmth of cacao and chai to create something that sets your brain in motion without the spike and crash of a regular coffee.

If you're someone who wants to start the day with clarity and focus rather than just a caffeine hit, this is your drink.

Smoky Mate Latte — Energy & Vitality

Yerba mate, lapsang souchong, and mineral-rich shilajit, touched with coffee drops and rose powder.

Here's something you won't find anywhere else in Amsterdam: a hot mate latte. We're the only place in the city serving yerba mate hot, in latte form, and it's one of our most interesting cups.

Yerba mate gives a clean, sustained energy — different in quality to coffee, without the jitteriness. We pair it with lapsang souchong for a smoky depth, shilajit for its mineral richness and adaptogenic properties, and finish with rose powder for a floral lift. It sounds unusual. It tastes remarkable.

If you're curious about mate but have only had it cold, this is the version to try.

Nice Tea with Coconut Foam — Ease & Lift

The star of the show is our Social Butterfly hibiscus blend, carbonated and served cold, topped with blue spirulina and coconut foam.

This one stops people mid-sentence. It arrives deep purple with a cloud of blue foam on top — striking enough that most people reach for their phone before they take a sip.

But it's more than a pretty drink. Social Butterfly is built around a specific intention: targeting the same neural pathways as alcohol, without the alcohol. A stack of adaptogens chosen to create social ease, calm, and a gentle lift.

Mellow Fellow — Hay Fever Relief (seasonal)

Our Mellow Fellow blend with nettle, peppermint, reishi, and ginger, brewed into a latte and finished with local raw honey infused with ginger and cinnamon.

This is a seasonal latte — available when Amsterdam's spring pollen count reminds you that your sinuses exist. Nettle is one of the most traditional natural antihistamines. Peppermint helps with sinus congestion. Reishi is anti-inflammatory. Ginger soothes. And local raw honey — made by bees from local pollen — is one of the oldest folk remedies for seasonal allergies.

It's warm, deeply comforting, and specifically built for this time of year. Ask the staff whether it's currently available.

Moonlight — Menstrual & PMS Support

A blend for your moon days? Yes, finally.

Notes of cacao, vanilla, and almond layered with herbs that help rebalance the systems that work overtime during your cycle. Topped with pink pepper and popcorn.

A functional latte menu that doesn't acknowledge the reality of a menstrual cycle isn't a complete menu. Moonlight is warm, comforting, and built around herbs known to support hormonal balance, reduce cramping, and ease the mood shifts that come with PMS.

The cacao and vanilla make it taste like a treat. The herbs underneath make it something more. Topped with pink pepper and popcorn for a finish that's playful and unexpected.

Matcha Beauty — Skin & Mood Glow

Matcha is everywhere in Amsterdam right now. Ours is different in two ways: we use Japanese ceremonial-grade matcha as the base, and we build a functional stack on top of it. Collagen and vitamin C for skin support, and saffron — one of the most potent natural mood-lifters — as the topping.

Saffron has genuine research behind it for mood support. It's also beautiful on top of a matcha latte. This cup earns its place on the menu on both counts.

Not just lattes — tea with intention

If you'd prefer a cup of tea, we have a full menu of blends starting at €4, with the option to add an adaptogen of your choice for €1.50.

Our adaptogen bar includes lion's mane, rhodiola, 5-HTP, black and red maca, ginseng, shilajit, tulsi, ashwagandha, reishi, hemp, blue lotus, and damiana. Every ingredient available at the bar is also available to purchase and take home. This is how we encourage people to build a daily herb practice between their visits — the cup in the shop introduces you to an ingredient, and the bag at home keeps it going.

The space

We're not a coffee shop you rush in and out of.

Happy Tea has a cosy lounge corner with cushions and windows — the kind of spot you settle into for an hour. There's a cubby with chess, books, and games. The whole space is designed for the kind of conversation and connection that's becoming harder to find in a city that moves fast.

We think the future of socialising doesn't have to revolve around alcohol. Our Nice Tea with Coconut Foam, our Smoky Mate Latte, our Evening Groove blend at home — these are drinks that create ease and warmth without the next morning. That's what we're building toward, one cup at a time.
